[0:00:00] Andrew: Hello and welcome to the Summer Battle Movie Extravaganza Recap. The summer's over. There's like an actual name for it and I just don't understand. Summer Shoot'em Up Extravaganza Fun Fest.
[0:00:14] Gavin: If ever the opportunity for an extravaganza raises itself, I say take it.
[0:00:19] Andrew: Yeah, I think extravaganza's fun and other news. We should have more extravaganzas. Now, this season, we changed something controversially. People upset about the spirit of things. We have some bonus stars. We Mario partied this extravaganza in which there's what? Six categories? Yeah, six different possible scenarios. Three bonus stars will be given out. Whoever wins the bonus star gets $50 million to distribute however they feel like. However, this was not a competitive season. So I don't think anything will change with these results, but it's fine. We can spin the wheel. I have an
[0:01:08] Geoff: issue with the wheel.
[0:01:10] Andrew: Okay, go ahead. No second wheel?
[0:01:12] Geoff: Go to second wheel.
[0:01:14] Eric: I don't, yeah, sure, whatever.
[0:01:16] Gavin: Yeah, make it a valid wheel.
[0:01:17] Unidentified: Oh,
[0:01:17] Gavin: yeah, absolutely.
[0:01:19] Andrew: Yeah. So to recap the bonus categories, we have lowest Metacritic score, lowest box office earned, most movies delayed, most movies seen, most theater popcorn eaten at home, and the TPG movie of the summer, as well as go to second wheel. Shall we spin the wheel to determine what the first bonus star will be and then who gets it?
[0:01:41] Geoff: Yes. Yeah.
[0:01:43] Andrew: Yes. Spin away,
[0:01:45] Unidentified: Eric.
[0:01:45] Eric: How many times do
[0:01:46] Unidentified: you
[0:01:46] Eric: want to shuffle?
[0:01:48] Gavin: How many movies did Andrew see?
[0:01:51] Andrew: 26.
[0:01:52] Eric: 26. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,
[0:01:56] Unidentified: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 12, 13,
[0:01:58] Eric: 13,
[0:01:58] Unidentified: 14, 16,
[0:01:58] Eric: 17, 17, 18,
[0:02:00] Unidentified: 19, 19, 19, 19, 19, 20, 19, 20, 20, 20, 20,
[0:02:01] Eric: 20,
[0:02:01] Unidentified: 20,
[0:02:01] Eric: 20,
[0:02:01] Unidentified: 20,
[0:02:02] Eric: 20,
[0:02:03] Unidentified: 20.
[0:02:03] Eric: there's where we land spin that wheel all right here we go here's our first category i
[0:02:09] Geoff: don't
[0:02:13] Eric: have any audio
[0:02:14] Nick: oh please please
[0:02:18] Andrew: what a great spin the one that all of us have a shot at bonus star now this is great i texted tpg yesterday asking him what in his opinion was the movie of the summer i will read his text any guesses does anyone have any any gut feelings to what the tpg movie of the summer is
[0:02:41] Geoff: i think it'll be furious mutiny odyssey
[0:02:43] Andrew: odyssey furious you have any guesses gavin yeah one of them okay one of them great thank you his reply first thing that came to mind was the furious which came out on june 12th but actually oh the end of oak street is tpg's movie of the summer wow the
[0:03:12] Nick: dinosaur one the dinosaur one street
[0:03:14] Eric: who had the end of oak street andrew that would be gavin wow oh
[0:03:20] Andrew: wait so gavin wait wait wait wait wait okay oh you're just guessing correct that's a cloverfield movie right uh and it's supposed to be but i think it wasn't gavin doesn't my mistake nick i i have it nick i just
[0:03:36] Eric: wow we leave it up to andrew and i double checked and i made it right i was looking at it i pulled
[0:03:42] Nick: it up
[0:03:42] Eric: he
[0:03:42] Nick: fixed it in
[0:03:43] Unidentified: the
[0:03:43] Nick: moment i fixed it in the
[0:03:44] Andrew: moment just gavin gavin ended up with like 13 of the final 14 movies and it came out at the end so i just went by guessing double
[0:03:53] Gavin: check by guessing you really got my hopes up there i
[0:03:56] Andrew: did but it went oh yeah you needed it went to nick nick how would you like to distribute your 50 million i'll take it i'll just take it but you'll just take it and with nick taking it it doesn't change the placement in the standings at all nick is now at 484 million it seems
[0:04:17] Eric: shouldn't we look at the results before we yeah it seems like it seems like we should look at the results before you just start kind of showing that stuff it seemed like we would do this three times and then apply the 50 million let's do that whatever it is let's spin
[0:04:30] Andrew: the wheel again
[0:04:34] Geoff: spin
[0:04:35] Andrew: the wheel again i
[0:04:37] Geoff: gotta see this end of oak street movie i guess yeah lowest
[0:04:40] Andrew: it is or isn't
[0:04:42] Geoff: cloverfield
[0:04:42] Andrew: uh i think metacritic feels like it could be part of that but no it's not i don't think oh okay lowest metacritic score andrew could be a guest metacritic score now we are going to need another wheel for this what is what we're gonna need why is that are there because we have a three-way tie there are three movies that all have the lowest metacritic score love it it is ice cream man oh wow really the breadwinner that doesn't surprise me cool and spa weekend okay now i believe gavin has two of these
[0:05:20] Gavin: double check
[0:05:21] Andrew: let me go through it i think jeff has one going off my memory yes jeff has spa weekend could
[0:05:25] Gavin: be a guest there
[0:05:26] Andrew: and gavin has ice cream man as well as uh what was the the third one the breadwinner is that that nate bark gotsy movie yes it is who has the breadwinner do you want me to shuffle three times jeff has the breadwinner so jeff has spa weekend and the breadwinner so he is a two two chances you don't need it this is
[0:05:48] Unidentified: i
[0:05:48] Andrew: like i have the breadwinner i'm looking at the list i'm working as it goes it's not confusing spin the wheel it's not confusing
[0:05:57] Eric: no
[0:05:58] Andrew: because i'm explaining as we go to mean definitive and i'm double checking you're just sitting at a wheel spinning you can do this as well anyone can do this it's not spin the fucking wheel
[0:06:10] Eric: it's not confusing are we gonna shuffle this at all no
[0:06:14] Andrew: okay spin it
[0:06:18] Eric: it's not confusing
[0:06:20] Andrew: it's
[0:06:21] Gavin: crazy it didn't have a good second one
[0:06:25] Andrew: ice cream man gavin you get 50 million are you sure you still get okay i'm noting that you still gotta go so nick
[0:06:33] Eric: nick and gavin so far we'll remove that second wheel and we're back to the first wheel and the final spin andrew are you ready i'm ready here we go final spin this thing
[0:06:45] Nick: oh man oh
[0:06:50] Andrew: mostly it's most movies delayed so i just want to note that all of the conversation about the spirit of most movies seen was completely pointless had no impact on anything wasn't a thing played out in any way
[0:07:06] Eric: this whole thing kind of feels pointless no this is
[0:07:08] Andrew: there's the plenty of high stakes
[0:07:09] Eric: high stakes got it got it high stakes got it somebody who came in negative last would say and true who has a mutiny's about to take charge if amazon didn't screw it up i would have been a number one most movies delayed who who had the most movies delayed that would be gavin with wow gavin got two of the bonus stars the rich get richer jeff bitch get now we look at thanks to regulation fan the summer movie auction results whoa
[0:07:40] Andrew: gavin here it is so this is the first time we've done this where the winner uh got over 1.5 billion and it's the first time we've had anyone lose who got over a billion typically the billion dollar mark has been like if you get a billion you win not the case this year you know what's interesting
[0:07:59] Geoff: too it correlates to most money most movies least money least movies it's true that isn't true it's
[0:08:07] Eric: something to think about and look and you can see it up and down
[0:08:09] Geoff: 12 9 9 5
[0:08:11] Eric: yeah can we see that you guys are you guys are neck and neck here at three and four with nine movies each and then you can see the way it's spread out it's pretty good and you can even look at the graphs
[0:08:20] Gavin: next year yeah you can see odyssey and you can see spider-man huge leaps wow and spider-man just kept going i believe that yesterday i think yesterday spider-man overtook the force awakens as the highest grossing domestic movie of all time of all time yes does that mean there's seven
[0:08:42] Geoff: now over a billion there's seven i
[0:08:45] Gavin: believe there's there's there's one there's none over a billion but this could be the first one so
[0:08:49] Andrew: shall we distribute the money and then we can go through all everybody's movie list and talk about sure absolutely all right so nick nick what
[0:08:57] Eric: do you want to do with your 50 million i want it
[0:08:59] Andrew: okay so we're
[0:09:00] Eric: 84 million nick's at 484 and david you have 100 million what do you want to do with it i would like to deduct that for
[0:09:09] Gavin: myself please
[0:09:10] Eric: you're going to take 100 million away from yourself so you're at one you're at 1.5 billion
[0:09:16] Andrew: now yes the funny is
[0:09:17] Unidentified: that
[0:09:18] Andrew: it it didn't change the 150 million couldn't change anybody's place i guess if it all went to eric he could have gone up yeah
[0:09:25] Eric: i could have leapfrogged oh could you imagine if i got all of them and i leapfrogged nick into fourth oh that finished last funny he would have been he would have been
[0:09:33] Geoff: pissed we'll just have to be a little we'll just have to be better uh they'll have to be more parody next summer i think so be i have a whole new system
[0:09:42] Andrew: for how we do this next summer that we're going to test in a piece of advent content we haven't recorded yet but i i think it will create a really fun wrinkle to all of this and it will be a different experience next year is it gonna be
[0:09:57] Eric: kind of like this like kind of like the the christmas day games one because i just found out uh darren fox might get traded to the clippers and that might kind of fuck up my whole thing uh no it won't be like that i kind of need to make i want
[0:10:10] Unidentified: to
[0:10:10] Eric: make some changes to my day to my lineup he might not play for an eligible team that
[0:10:19] Andrew: is a wrinkle that is probably hey christmas christmas day problem for you it's not gonna be like that it'll be a different thing but uh i'm excited to see how it plays out and i think you guys will like it but that is for the future how are you
[0:10:31] Eric: guys feeling about how this all like gavin just monstrous well i think away with it
[0:10:38] Gavin: that's got to be a pretty high uh dollar spent to dollar return ratio on a spider man i don't know if it's gonna be the best
[0:10:45] Eric: yeah
[0:10:46] Geoff: i mean that's a 12 because it was so late here yeah all timer 78 million dollars per point that's pretty crazy it came down
[0:10:54] Andrew: to the odyssey is what happened yeah you and i were both going back and forth on the odyssey and uh if you would have won the odyssey then i would have ended up with all of the movies you got essentially from that point onward it would have flipped
[0:11:09] Gavin: that's crazy so so by getting the odyssey you lost by
[0:11:13] Andrew: getting the odyssey i lost yeah because then you were the only one with money for buying out the rest that's why you got spider-man for like 12 because nobody that's right what
[0:11:21] Geoff: do you guys think were the biggest surprises of the year in terms of film
[0:11:24] Eric: it's it's definitely the back rooms and obsession yes yeah obsession
[0:11:28] Geoff: doing 260 million dollars is insane right here and back
[0:11:32] Eric: rooms
[0:11:32] Geoff: almost doing 200
[0:11:33] Eric: itself let's let's just
[0:11:34] Andrew: go through the sequencing from last place the first and discuss the movies however we want to eric do you want to open up your movie list absolutely
[0:11:41] Eric: so animal farm you know didn't really pull for me but that was just a fun pick mandalorian and grogu really a box office bomb but you want to talk about a bomb here man disclosure day what off but wow there's another world where that does steven spielberg numbers and this is a whole different race like this is just not not
[0:12:02] Andrew: there anymore i want to talk about some of these movies animal farm i was gonna see and then it turns out andy circus kind of sucks in a way that's disappointing uh and also there's like i think ai usage in animal farm so i i skipped out on that let me put my list i i ranked all of these movies and i have notes for them the mandalorian and grogu is a movie am i the only one that saw that i know emily was excited about the idea did not we did not see it no no i didn't see it i've never seen the show and i the movie made me question why anyone liked the show and i'm sure it was
[0:12:36] Unidentified: good
[0:12:36] Andrew: it was like a western
[0:12:38] Nick: at first but
[0:12:39] Andrew: it just like all of the characters were so uninteresting and the greatest performance of the movie is martin scorsese is this weird food vendor guy who also should be doing more voice acting he's done two roles that i'm aware of this and shark tail and he is fantastic in both of them like way more than he needs to be he's the genuine star of the mandalorian and grogu and he has like two scenes but what a boring movie that i wish one of you guys who had seen the show watched just so i could have like some concept of how accurate it is feeling through the show and then disclosure day did you need to talk about disclosure day disclosure day is a movie that eric son is like i need to talk to somebody about this so i was very excited to eventually watch it
[0:13:28] Eric: it's so bad what a weird movie yeah um just sort of like what i don't i just don't know like what the point was well
[0:13:37] Andrew: the point there's a question in it that they think is very interesting but they also don't because they don't give a lot of time
[0:13:47] Eric: to it they don't spend any time with it and they don't answer it and they don't do anything that would be interesting with it yes
[0:13:52] Andrew: the sort of question of disclosure day is can you reveal that aliens were here because how would that impact religion otherwise what if people stop believing in god is sort of the big question of the movie but they don't really explore it in any way at all there's like one way shape or form but that's sort of the thing and and i guess i don't know spoilers for disclosure do you guys care like i don't think you can spoil nah disclosure day who cares spoil it who cares it sucks spoil it
[0:14:24] Geoff: the i mean i mean listen if you don't want it to be spoiled stop listening right here but i don't give a fuck spoil it for me the
[0:14:30] Andrew: problem of the movie is it's called disclosure day and the entire conflict of the film is will disclosure day happen but certainly it will happen because it's called disclosure day uh it
[0:14:41] Eric: has it's called it's colin firth yeah colin firth is chasing them the whole time they're chasing they are being chased to a nbc affiliate local news station in st louis missouri where they're going to divulge all the secrets of aliens and then when he's like he almost catches them a number of times and then when they are all in the same place the local nbc affiliate in st louis uh he has them and then he goes never mind and then he just takes a seat and then they just disclose everything and you go so what was this
[0:15:19] Geoff: so would would you feel differently about the film if the title was changed to disclosure day question mark way
[0:15:27] Unidentified: better
[0:15:27] Geoff: way better movie
[0:15:28] Andrew: it is a thing or for like one of the problems to me is that you know like steven spielberg famously with jurassic park used a lot of practical effects and because of that those dinosaurs really hold up and when you watch that movie like they look good all of the aliens and alien footage in this movie is cg and it looks cg it's like it looks so cg it looks very cg and it's also a world in which they establish that like ai is a thing like they do a thing where when they're seeing the alien footage they're like oh we're running an ai scan on it and it's real but it just looks cg so there's like this disconnect to me of people watching this know what cg looks like it would just be like oh this is fake this is just cg does
[0:16:11] Geoff: it answer the question how does uh how does uh disclosure day affect religion or does it do like a terminator 3 ending where it like ends right at the moment it
[0:16:20] Andrew: does a terminator 3 it does the thing where the the final moment in the movie is the alien is going to talk and say something and they're about to say what the alien said and then it ends because he thinks that the exciting moment will be the conversation you have once the movie ends discussing the but it's really not that interesting of a question
[0:16:40] Eric: it's a movie where they go we have to put this online and then the character like one of the characters goes no no one will ever believe it we have to go to a real news source the nbc affiliate in st louis missouri yes that's truly what will save us tv news and it was like well we are i am of a different generation than steven spielberg i also conspiracy theory have a feeling that steven spielberg did not direct a majority of this movie there are moments of levity that feel like spielberg and the rest of the movie doesn't feel like him at all uh it's very strange it's a very tonally weird movie you
[0:17:22] Geoff: know it's interesting that they chose st louis there's a lot of money in disclosure day i mean you figure there's it's going to bring in so much tourism to the city of st louis they're going to build a like some sort of a theme park around it there's going to be a big statue you know it's going to they're two things i figured and here we are
[0:17:41] Andrew: there my favorite moment of the movie is when they're doing the news thing and they're revealing like the alien footage to the public there's a moment in which one of the people working argues that they shouldn't share it with fox or cnn because it's an nbc exclusive and i thought that was hilarious i love that so stupid and uh the way to fix this movie is something i talked to eric about i think that this movie becomes awesome if all you have to do is make the aliens be et if they were all yes this movie rocks if this was a secret et movie i am so on board with all of the other nonsense that is in this film
[0:18:18] Eric: this is also a better movie if instead of like emily blunt and it was a josh o'connor or whatever if instead of adult actors it's kids yes this is a much better movie if they are 12 years old and having to like well that's figure this out as kids that's et jeff this movie is better if et is involved in any way shape or form
[0:18:39] Gavin: what if they replaced all the guns with walkie talkies
[0:18:41] Eric: what i'm hearing is this movie was
[0:18:43] Geoff: better the first time when it was
[0:18:44] Gavin: et
[0:18:45] Eric: yeah yeah i like this movie more than
[0:18:47] Andrew: the main alert and grogu the main alert and grogu my 22nd movie on the list eight disclosure day was 18 but it's in the range of terrible i don't want to watch uh next one on the list is i want your sex this is chasing amy for gen z i watched this movie last night uh got cooper hoffman in it i like him a lot she's good uh yeah that's a bug it has like one million dollars i double checked that last night i don't know why oh
[0:19:14] Unidentified: that
[0:19:14] Andrew: would put me
[0:19:14] Eric: up about i would
[0:19:15] Andrew: change everything for you eric and then lastly a million dollars to me means a lot here on eric's list is mutiny i didn't see it yeah jason statham boat movie
[0:19:26] Eric: why you could easily see it if you just go to amazon.com and go to view the trailer and then the whole movie was right there oh really
[0:19:34] Andrew: yeah
[0:19:34] Geoff: you get it in two and a half minutes
[0:19:36] Eric: did you hear about
[0:19:37] Andrew: the bad guys
[0:19:38] Eric: no i didn't know i thought you're doing a bit there was they were preparing it for streaming like before like right before the movie came out in theaters and instead of hitting the file that is here's the trailer so you can watch the trailer for it they uploaded the whole movie the trailer yes so it was it was immediately pirated uh it was it was like that for a while like not like days but it was there for like i think a few hours people immediately pirated it so i will stand by wow
[0:20:09] Gavin: this is taking a while to upload
[0:20:11] Eric: yeah i i would have i think i would have won this competition if mutiny didn't get screwed by amazon yeah how many hundreds of
[0:20:17] Geoff: millions do you think were lost because i mean
[0:20:19] Eric: i'll talk i'll i'll say it billions jeff yeah well those are nick's or eric's movies maybe that's just me and now we can go to
[0:20:27] Andrew: nick's nick boy
[0:20:29] Nick: oh what
[0:20:30] Andrew: the hell is it starts here with deep water oh we can go with deep water i can i have notes about deep water i was so excited about deep water because deep water is a rennie harlan production and rennie harlan is my favorite schlock director he makes bad movies that are fun but they're bad and uh he did the impossible in deep water and just made a really boring shark movie with aaron eckhart and ben kingsley
[0:20:54] Eric: ben kingsley i'm already bored they crash a plane into the
[0:20:59] Andrew: ocean and then there are sharks that eat people but they really don't know what to do once the plane crashes they run out of ideas the only cool part of the movie is there's a scene in which aaron eckhart shoots a shark through the face with a flare gun that rocked but that that's it not worth watching one of the worst movies i've seen it's 25th on my list of 27 whoa wow wow ramy so then leads us to the sheep detectives which i think nick and i are the only two that have seen it a cute movie it
[0:21:31] Unidentified: was
[0:21:31] Andrew: good it was cute i think in my notes i have babies first who done it like it's just it's a fun like it's a family movie and it's a like a good introductory way i think to that genre it is way better than it needs to be
[0:21:44] Nick: absolutely i was not expecting them to go for the emotional note either even though their own dies yeah
[0:21:53] Andrew: it does have like i it is an emotional movie but not in like i don't know the way that i heard about it going into it people are like this movie's gonna fucking devastate you and it's yeah sweet
[0:22:05] Geoff: i'm surprised it didn't it i feel like it got more hype than than money made i thought people talked about it a lot more i'm surprised it didn't make 100 million just based on how much i heard it discussed and referenced it's
[0:22:18] Andrew: very funny that it is uh adapted from a book and the guy that adapted it is the same guy that did uh chernobyl and the last of us totally very different oh really yes some range cheap detectives my eighth movie on the list and now we go to in the gray which is a movie i really wish any of you had seen because it is the strangest structured movie i think i've ever watched it is a guy richie movie
[0:22:46] Eric: oh this is the this is the jake gyllenhaal one
[0:22:50] Andrew: yes it's him and henry cavill and they're like fixers essentially for this lady and you know in like a heist movie there's the scene where they're like okay so we're gonna send the guy into the vault and he's been training to do this and while he's doing that this guy is gonna detonate smoke bombs in this room and they like kind of show the montage of like what the prep is and how they're gonna execute this thing yeah yeah the entire movie is that they never stop doing that every scene is that every scene is a character explaining what they're doing and why they're doing it while then showing them do it and then none of it ends up happening the way that they like it kind of does but like the whole point is that things fall apart kind of um and it sucks it's not witty it's not fun and all of the stuff that they're explaining genuinely feels like heist prep for a gta heist it is gta heist prep the movie with like nothing but exposition it is so weird do you
[0:23:48] Gavin: think someone just fed ai old guy richie movies and then it shat this script out
[0:23:53] Andrew: but like those have way more jokes in like guy richie at his best is a pretty funny like kind of goofy director and this is yeah but it's been
[0:24:03] Eric: a long time since he's been at his best man oh it has been i like i like the gentleman but even that yes like no it's like not good not as good as
[0:24:12] Nick: the prior stuff
[0:24:13] Eric: that
[0:24:13] Geoff: tv shows real good the netflix show that's what i hear at least i watched the first season the first season was i hear
[0:24:19] Andrew: the second season is also very good but yeah it's a weird movie that i i hope one of you sees just so i can talk about it because it is okay it's so strange all right i'll see but not like negatively watchable next we go into pressure which i think is a hall of fame dad movie if you have a dad in your life that needs a movie pressure is their movie it is uh i went into it not knowing the the plot it is uh based on a true story the conflict between meteorologists organizing for d-day there's a scottish meteorologist and an american meteorologist and they need the weather to be a certain uh condition for them to be able to initiate d-day and it's them trying to predict what the weather will be 48 hours later on that day and arguing can they go or not is this the brendan fraser movie yes brendan fraser okay
[0:25:16] Nick: is he one of the weather guys
[0:25:18] Andrew: no oh no he's the whale he's the whale he is uh he's like a eisenhower or something i don't remember who he plays he plays like a historic i think
[0:25:32] Geoff: it's eisenhower
[0:25:33] Andrew: it's good it's a really good movie it does the uh based on a true story thing where there is an emotional conflict about halfway through the movie that i looked into it is completely made up which i always feel kind of uncomfortable about with books that are about real events but it's such a great dad movie it is just two guys arguing about what the weather would be and why they're wrong about why they think the weather will be the way that it is it's awesome i
[0:25:59] Gavin: would recommend it great seven mil uh per points pretty pretty good
[0:26:04] Andrew: seven mil per points and also seventh on my list and now we move to jeff's favorite masters of the universe i think jeff and i are the only ones that have seen this i did see it i did i did indeed see it and i think we have very different opinions because we both have different opinions about he-man and masters of the universe as a whole
[0:26:26] Geoff: uh i mean i i don't know i what what what was your opinion of the film i
[0:26:33] Andrew: really enjoyed it it's definitely way too long but i thought it was fun i thought
[0:26:38] Unidentified: it was
[0:26:38] Andrew: fun and it made me care about he-man in a way i never cared about before but i don't think that they necessarily portrayed he-man in a way that people that like he-man would enjoy
[0:26:46] Geoff: i found it to be boring at pretty much every turn and i was surprised because i thought the trailer was pretty great and i thought the casting was pretty great and i was excited for the premise and going into it i feel like i was easy to please and i just couldn't be mustered uh muster enough energy to give a shit at any turn in the film and it just it just happened in front of me until finally stopped happening yeah i wanted to like it i would give it like a d plus that's
[0:27:21] Andrew: so funny because i came from the opposite end where i thought the trailer looked terrible i have no love for this property in any way and i ended up really enjoying it even though it is way too long in the middle there's like a section where they're trying to hammer in like kind of emotional moments between he-man and idris elba that felt nope unnecessary yep but i i found the movie to be funny and i enjoyed the action in it and uh i liked how ridiculous the characters were i
[0:27:47] Geoff: do the when the humor worked for me i thought it was cute it just very rarely worked for me unfortunately sure i thought what they were trying to go for i just didn't it just didn't land unfortunately and i and i definitely don't think i'm like uh precious about the masters of the universe universe or anything i don't give that much of a shit about he-man i just uh i feel positively about it you know did they play four non-blondes
[0:28:11] Andrew: what sorry
[0:28:11] Gavin: did they play four non-blondes in the movie what's
[0:28:14] Andrew: going on yeah yeah did they did not play
[0:28:16] Gavin: uh once that's a shame who
[0:28:18] Andrew: cares then skeleton was awesome though i hate to give jared leto credit in any way but he did a great job in my opinion there you go oh how
[0:28:26] Eric: is he still in movies i know he produces yeah he produces them like that's how he gets cast is that he puts the money up for this stuff it's so
[0:28:36] Andrew: funny that they made a morbius movie but never made the blade movie the fact that only well i think that's
[0:28:42] Eric: happened i think they made the morbius movie and that's why they didn't make the blade movie i wanted the blade movie the next movie
[0:28:49] Andrew: is the invite
[0:28:49] Eric: which
[0:28:50] Andrew: is did you see that andrew i did i saw it like two days ago my wife my
[0:28:54] Eric: wife loved this so
[0:28:56] Andrew: good it's fantastic
[0:28:57] Eric: she said it is phenomenal she's been trying to get me to watch it we haven't had time but she's been trying to get me to watch it and it's like all right like we we got to sit down and see this she
[0:29:05] Andrew: loved it loved it loved it surprisingly funny feels very genuine all of the characters and also i don't know how on purpose it is because you know like obviously a lot of ego in hollywood but they casted this movie perfectly where like all of the characters are sort of playing into the persona of how we view these people as celebrities like edward norton is sort of this obnoxious douchebag but isn't really aware of how he comes across to other people seth rogan is overly sarcastic and it's kind of an asshole in that way like it is they're playing against type of their perception of them as celebrities in a way that i think is interesting and it's also really well shot for a movie that takes place essentially in just an apartment the entire time really good choices great movie it ended up being my third favorite movie of the summer oh wow oh wow that's way up there man bronze metal cool
[0:29:59] Eric: bronze metal and then the number two the silver goes to minions and monsters right minions
[0:30:05] Andrew: and monsters is good and i i'm shocked to say it it's it's really well done it is better than toy story uh which i never thought i would say they also didn't get rewarded for it because like on the scale of minions money makers it made like 183 movie it is a love letter to old hollywood and old monster movies and it is creative and thoughtful in ways that despicable me or minions has never been or has tried to be and i i fear that they won't ever try again based on how much it made but because they got punished for it
[0:30:36] Gavin: yeah do you think it's just minion fatigue there it could be both
[0:30:40] Geoff: i don't know i'm honestly surprised that minion fatigue didn't happen the last cycle the last movie was a huge hit for nick i believe and i i thought that was going to be where it fell off yeah i think that 200 million dollars is about where these movies deserve to be at this point in their cycle i think it is uh an
[0:30:59] Andrew: insane cast of christoph waltz is in this movie jesse eisenberg is in this kids
[0:31:03] Geoff: love christoph waltz they cannot get enough of christoph waltz
[0:31:06] Andrew: it is i remember seeing an interview before i'd seen a trailer or anything of jesse eisenberg being like yeah i'm in this because it's all about old hollywood and like saluting the past and is like yeah creative in that way and i went like fuck off you you're this is the money it's minions like relax and then i saw it i went oh shit okay yeah is
[0:31:28] Gavin: that nick's worst value per point or is there one worse above that well
[0:31:31] Andrew: it has to be
[0:31:32] Gavin: it has to be
[0:31:33] Eric: yeah three and it was
[0:31:35] Gavin: such
[0:31:35] Eric: a
[0:31:35] Nick: it was such a homo last year in the gray yeah in the
[0:31:39] Unidentified: deep
[0:31:39] Nick: water i really did myself in because then i couldn't challenge gavin on anything else yes i
[0:31:44] Eric: mean that but but again there's a world there's a universe like disclosure day where this fucking bangs and we all just have a different conversation that's true i i i don't think that i agree that there's fatigue with some of this stuff like definitely but if this was 800 million all of us would be like damn man it really did well but hey it's minions like yeah it's it's just it's just a swing right it's just the way it is
[0:32:16] Geoff: it's gonna make next year interesting when minions 32 comes out and we have to just have to figure out is it the hit or is it the bomb well we gotta
[0:32:24] Eric: figure out which which like youtube series that they turn it spooky youtube series they turn into a movie if that yeah find out if they all follow
[0:32:31] Nick: mr beast yeah mr beast i didn't didn't wasn't there like a larger gap but before despicable me 4 though and that's like maybe that's why it had such a big like it was returning yeah
[0:32:44] Eric: maybe oh probably i think i think it
[0:32:47] Unidentified: had
[0:32:47] Nick: been a few years at least since the last minions thing there's also just big
[0:32:51] Andrew: layers it's an onion what isn't an onion is the end of oak street the tpg movie of the summer which i also watched last night after tpg declared it the movie of the summer and uh it is the best spielberg movie in years wow
[0:33:08] Eric: yeah i uh michael and jordan were both talking pretty highly about it at 100 e they were like super into it and uh i've watched a bunch of it on tiktok uh i not enough to say i've watched the full movie but i've seen a bunch of it on tiktok and it looks very cool it is cool
[0:33:23] Gavin: seeing a bunch of a movie but not watching the movie so
[0:33:27] Eric: yeah i
[0:33:28] Andrew: might watch the movie i've just seen a bunch of it on tiktok it uh has an ending that has fucked me up in a way that i wasn't expecting oh wow um cool yeah but like i don't think it meant to like i don't think the movie considers what it it's hard to explain without just spoiling it and i don't want to spoil it but it it ends in a way that they're supposed to you're supposed to just kind of have a certain emotion about it but if you step back and evaluate as a whole what the implication is uh it's incredibly dark i get it's very odd it's a very odd thing i don't think they intend to leave you with the questions they do it is like disclosure day on by accident where i ended that movie and wanted to talk to somebody about the ending and what it meant and so i'm excited for at some point someone else to see it that i know i'll watch it
[0:34:21] Nick: i'll watch it soon
[0:34:22] Andrew: 12th favorite movie of the summer wow wow and then we have the dog stars
[0:34:29] Eric: a ridley scott joint dude this is like people who think that ridley scott still have gas went to go see this and they just went what hat what is this this is a book thing right
[0:34:41] Nick: it is a book okay i
[0:34:43] Andrew: think people were especially mad because uh obviously there's a dog in the dog stars and in the novel the dog dies of old age where in the movie the dog gets like shot and killed what my god fuck you yeah they like escalated in a way of i i didn't end up i i was listening to the audiobook and there's a whole shootout in the audiobook over a truck that has coca-cola in it i was like i wonder if that made it into the movie and so i read the wikipedia for the movie and uh ended up further than i expected so i just ended up reading what happens in the whole film uh but yeah i was reading the discourse on i think the dog gets shot in a conflict and is like it's a sad death type thing and that fuels the character to go for we're in the novel that is not a whole part of the arc of the character this has nothing to
[0:35:34] Geoff: do with basketball shocking making
[0:35:38] Nick: sure zero basketball he's not the dog of the dog stars is he
[0:35:42] Andrew: no he's the dog of the past of the dog stars uh but those are nick the the
[0:35:50] Eric: thing that i saw from this was hey so why is everyone wearing carhartt like expensive clothes that are like so clean in like this crazy post-apocalypse movie uh oh it's post-apocalyptic yes i don't know it's like i don't know how far it's supposed to be it's very it is so clean looking is it
[0:36:11] Nick: zombie or what
[0:36:12] Andrew: no it's like there is no a disease like the road
[0:36:16] Nick: yeah oh i see just society people got sick and died
[0:36:21] Eric: and dude society i hear you joker uh hey these are nick's movies those are nick's movies locked in uh but and now we get jeff
[0:36:29] Andrew: jeff's movies i'm jeff starting with the devil wears prada too damn that's a huge return on this exact get
[0:36:37] Geoff: exactly as i expected it to uh it was sold reliable uh it's uh it was great for me not like some of these other fucking movies they're really
[0:36:50] Andrew: people love that first devil wears prada movie and i feel like they did justice to that in this one absolutely i'm
[0:36:57] Unidentified: not
[0:36:57] Andrew: one of those people i thought it was fine but like when i watched devil wears prada too it reads as fan service in a way that i'm totally okay with
[0:37:04] Geoff: huge in the periphery of my world
[0:37:06] Andrew: sure devil wears prada yeah it's fine it's a totally average it's 14th on my list wow
[0:37:12] Geoff: that's almost as good as the end of oak street
[0:37:15] Andrew: yeah it's good like i have a range essentially anything whereas uh disclosure day is my actually supergirl is my range of like you don't need to see this
[0:37:25] Eric: ah there you go
[0:37:27] Andrew: there's no value uh but next is god is is god is jeff did you see that too i didn't see it just i didn't see it's just me
[0:37:36] Geoff: i don't know that i saw any of my movies oh i did see uh yeah one of it
[0:37:40] Andrew: it's awesome i couldn't recommend is god is enough it is a revenge movie with so much style and uh it's one of those things like creatively where you watch where it's somebody who has a completely different background than you making something that is incredibly inspired and how cool that is inspiring to you as a person uh it's awesome and uh it's sort of a perfect example of like the importance of representation to me of just it isn't you can give me an infinite amount of time and i'm never making that movie and it's such a awesome cool movie in so many ways couldn't recommend it enough
[0:38:17] Geoff: i'll definitely see that one too
[0:38:18] Andrew: but next i
[0:38:20] Geoff: won't see the is
[0:38:21] Andrew: the breadwinner bargazzi comedy film
[0:38:26] Eric: five million five million per point jeff
[0:38:28] Andrew: i i
[0:38:29] Geoff: expected that to be a 40 to 60 million dollar film i was disappointed i'm
[0:38:34] Andrew: sure they were too yeah this is my worst movie of the summer yay that's what i've read whoa which i i didn't expect after watching scary movie six i was like it certainly can't be worse than scary movie six it is so much worse in like not even an offensive way it just is there's no jokes like there's nothing funny about the movie there's no is it a comedy just it's supposed to be
[0:39:02] Geoff: yeah
[0:39:03] Eric: and this this is his first effort he's like a stand-up comedian like a really like at this point like a big touring stand-up comedian and this is like his first movie
[0:39:13] Andrew: and a lot of the like supposed to be jokes are ripped from his stand-up and it just doesn't translate like the the credits of the movie are showing the scenes that uh it's showing him doing stand-up and then showing the scenes in the movie that are the jokes of the stand-up and there's just nothing that's more interesting than an actual movie seinfeld the movie like the movie so weird uh shark tank is weirdly a very important part of this film as well in a way that felt like who are you aiming this for uh there's tennessee titans imagery constantly in this thing to the point where i was like did they pay to be part of this but i guess he's just a big titans fan and then it made me wonder like i wonder how the titans feel about watching this shit movie that they're plastered all over
[0:40:04] Geoff: i
[0:40:05] Eric: would
[0:40:06] Geoff: love to be that kind of successful we'd be like all right jeff we want it to be a romantic comedy you're the lead and i'm like okay cool so it's a romantic comedy about the celtics and i'm the lead yes
[0:40:15] Andrew: yeah you
[0:40:16] Geoff: just shoehorn
[0:40:17] Andrew: in there's such an unnecessary subplot of like getting season tickets for the titans yeah and i
[0:40:22] Geoff: i get to meet somehow larry bird and i are friends and we're in like four scenes together
[0:40:26] Andrew: looking at jeff's list is interesting the run of just like oh boy yeah because we now move on to scary movie six oh
[0:40:34] Geoff: man i did see this one wow uh not good i will say my wife enjoyed it got exactly what she wanted out of it wow yeah wow she's a fan of the franchise in a way that i am
[0:40:49] Andrew: yeah it had two jokes in it that i thought were funny oh that's great oh good yeah one of them is that the main two jokes in it uh well it has way more unfortunately that's the problem uh they try a lot there's a lot of attempts there's a character that like
[0:41:06] Gavin: died so long ago the spoofy yeah spoofing everything genre it did not it made 100 million
[0:41:12] Geoff: dollars
[0:41:13] Andrew: yeah it did it did really well there will be a scary movie seven i assume oh yeah definitely there's a character where like their their anxiety medication is just labeled daddy issue or mommy issues i thought that was funny and then it has a really good ending i will give it that they they do something at the end that i think is funny and clever reflecting on the series as a whole and the fact that the wayans are back involved in this and they weren't for a large section i think they did one and two and then three four and five were other people now they're back for six and that's that i have nothing else to say about it it sucks supergirl is the next movie on jeff's list that i was so disappointed by because i love superman it was great everyone was
[0:42:00] Eric: disappointed by this i think yeah this is
[0:42:03] Geoff: where my this is where my summer falls apart like i'm doing well here for the for the in all you know for the most part and then what should be a 600 million dollar film is a 72 million dollar
[0:42:15] Andrew: crazy and it's not terrible it's just like so forgettably average it is a summer it is a movie that you go to because it's too hot and you don't have air conditioning so you want to spend like two hours in a movie theater and it delivers on that but like apparently it wasn't hot enough
[0:42:32] Gavin: this summer so i only made like 12 million more than sheep detectives
[0:42:37] Unidentified: yeah
[0:42:38] Eric: yeah way to go sheep detectives that's crazy yeah
[0:42:42] Gavin: next one
[0:42:44] Andrew: for jeff another another rough one live action moana
[0:42:48] Geoff: yeah i mean i feel like the live action disney movies should fall off a cliff i just thought i was but i thought it was the other side of the cliff still no no
[0:42:57] Eric: yeah you're totally
[0:42:58] Geoff: yeah yeah i think not bad about the rock yeah
[0:43:02] Andrew: it's weird just maybe the only role that the rock could play where he's too small to do it like even him i i
[0:43:10] Geoff: expected it to make 300 million i didn't think it would be like insane but i expected it to do about twice as good as it
[0:43:17] Andrew: yeah i think that's a fair expectation and then we go to evil dead burn which i also did not see didn't see it when either i i'm not a big body horror guy and that is really what that is about so i hear that's very scary
[0:43:31] Eric: apparently so body horror too is what i heard yeah
[0:43:34] Andrew: so uh there you go and then we have cut off which is a movie that i really want to see because it's a jonah hill film that is apparently so bad that the studio doesn't want to release it so it didn't come out oh the boy do i want to see that now uh i don't even know if they tax rate at all like i don't know what the budget was i think they were just like we can't we can't release this we're not going to make any money i think as of now there's still no release date planned no i think it's just shelved and it will never see the light today would be my dang and then we have spa weekend which based on how much it earned feels like it only released for one weekend at 6.9 million i didn't see weekend spa weekend and those are jeff's movies good
[0:44:20] Eric: movies good enough to get me right right
[0:44:22] Geoff: in
[0:44:22] Andrew: the middle
[0:44:23] Eric: dead center my man dead center
[0:44:25] Geoff: third place
[0:44:25] Eric: and here comes andrew a silver medal himself uh so andrew i assume you saw most of these probably
[0:44:31] Andrew: uh yes okay hokum my favorite movie of the summer even though it's not an all summer movie wow it is we're coming up on october watch hokum in october it is to me everything i want in a horror movie it has engaging characters a kind of engaging hook uh there's a mystery to be solved it's awesome couldn't recommend hokum enough great movie but then we go to mortal kombat 2 which is not a great movie the only note i have about mortal kombat 2 is i enjoyed carl urban in it he was fun whenever he was on screen dude
[0:45:03] Geoff: i tried to watch it twice i never made it further than 45 minutes in it did you restart each time uh no i picked up where i left off oh man you put more
[0:45:13] Andrew: quarters in halfway through
[0:45:14] Eric: yeah i put more quarters uh i watched part of it on a plane coming back from new york i was sitting leaning over to and going what is this what is happening like what is this movie tonally it makes no sense with the first one uh it looks like a tv show it's so ugly it's shot like shit it doesn't make any sense carl urban i'm firmly planting my flag carl urban is a tv actor but there's no more tv shows so he has to do movies and it's unfortunate because he's a great tv actor but then they put him in mortal kombat 2 and it does not help him out at all and it's like it really is a bummer
[0:45:56] Gavin: calling someone who's in lord of the rings a tv actor he
[0:45:59] Eric: is but he's not he's not one of the guys everyone goes hell yeah that's the lord of the rings guy they go that's the guy from dread another movie that's like this where you go yeah and that's the
[0:46:11] Unidentified: guy
[0:46:11] Eric: from the
[0:46:11] Geoff: boys what about star exactly
[0:46:13] Eric: a t a tv show doom is what it's star trek i think of star i
[0:46:18] Geoff: think of star trek
[0:46:18] Eric: and the boys he they put him in a leading role in a movie like this and you go oh no but then they put him in stuff like a show and you go great he's a great tv actor there's nothing wrong with being a tv actor no i think it's fantastic there's not enough there's no shows on tv so he doesn't have anything to do well the problem is that all the shows on tv
[0:46:38] Andrew: are now starring tom hanks and yes exactly matthew mcconaughey and like huge sucks uh yeah next up we have obsession which is a movie that greatly overperformed expectations i expected it to make 100 million like i thought this was going to be a sleeper hit but i don't think anyone projected it to be what it ended up being 44 million dollars
[0:46:59] Geoff: a point yeah damn dude that's gonna be the second most valuable point where
[0:47:03] Andrew: did you rank on your
[0:47:04] Geoff: list because you didn't like it as much i didn't like it
[0:47:06] Andrew: i i think it's a like a well-made good movie but like i got nothing out of it i really struggle uh as i've get older i've become softer and if a movie just is like a about miserable people having miserable things happen to them it's really tough for me to get in
[0:47:23] Geoff: i thought it was great because of that
[0:47:27] Andrew: yeah just like there was nothing i don't think i had anything i could personally relate to with any of the content that was happening so there's nothing reflective for me as a viewer it was just kind of being in misery with other people and that is not a thing that i'm currently searching for in my viewing
[0:47:42] Geoff: oh man some of it so much of it felt familiar to me yeah see like if i had that i think i'm kidding for the intent for the purposes of this podcast i'm kidding
[0:47:55] Andrew: is i love boosters which is a really fun heist movie in a way that i didn't expect i feel like it's really lazy to compare it to like a wes anderson movie because it's very stylized but it does have sort of that whimsy that wes anderson movie movies have where there is i don't think this is a spoiler because it happens i'd say before the halfway point but there is a teleporter device that gets introduced to this thing and it really opens it up in some fun ways what the fuck it is a movie about stealing clothing uh and sort of fashion as a whole but it it turns into sort of this broader sort of as i said it feels lazy to compare but wes anderson's story about like workers rights and unions and people fighting power in a way that is cool with also a zany teleporter device and also uh puppets get introduced and it goes a bunch of weird places it's cool i'd recommend i love boosters also weird is backrooms which is the next movie on the list
[0:49:00] Andrew: i think eric and i are the only two who saw this one i saw the ending nick seen the last 25 minutes on
[0:49:06] Eric: a plane with no sound yeah being interrupted constantly by announcements which is we're trying to take off and they keep giving you announcements why are you what should be ended because i've seen it i wanted to see i wanted to see the last 25 minutes again so i put on the last 25 minutes of the movie i bet the last
[0:49:22] Geoff: 25 minutes is where the backrooms are
[0:49:25] Eric: that's hey hey almost exclusively in the back the last 25 minutes in fact the rest of the movie san jose california
[0:49:33] Andrew: yeah it was uh you talked about when we discussed the movie eric you were expecting more backrooms in it i was expecting so much less so i was happy with the amount of backrooms i got our expectations
[0:49:45] Eric: really different
[0:49:46] Andrew: yes i'm so used to these type of movies that are about places not actually going into the weird places so the fact that we spent like 30 minutes in it consecutively i was like oh this is so
[0:49:57] Gavin: you're just mainly expecting normal rooms i
[0:50:00] Andrew: was expecting normal rooms because i'm used to like horror movies that are like oh there's a crazy weird place and then you don't really go there because they don't have the budget or and or like they're just trying to hook you or whatever so i was happy that was expecting what the
[0:50:13] Eric: what the first half of the movie was which was parking lot in san jose california counselor's house in san jose california dude a furniture store in san jose california the this is a good movie if you go into it knowing that it is a 20 year old kid's first attempt at making a feature film and it and you have that expectation of like what are we getting here which is a little bit thin the premise isn't super bulky but you're getting good performances from everyone if this was somebody's third effort at making a movie i would be incredibly disappointed but a 20 year old's first effort at making a feature film i was blown away with what i saw
[0:50:58] Andrew: it's a perfect mystery box movie which has me concerned about i think they're making a sequel and i think so much of the charm is they set up so many things that i agree are kind of like fun to speculate on or think about but like the moment that they attempt to resolve any of those it becomes immediately uninteresting
[0:51:17] Eric: so i don't need i don't need more things in the back rooms i got exactly what i wanted out of that and then we can move on but they're not going to let it and they're going to make a bunch of sequels to this and every other you know youtube scary spooky copy pasta thing that people want to do so that then that's fine you know they took the wrong sort of lesson away from what this was but that's okay they
[0:51:39] Andrew: did and my biggest miss of this season is a movie called power ballad that nobody saw that i expected would have some amount of buzz because it is a nick jonas paul rudd movie and i just i feel like those two combined are probably worth more than 2.6 million i think but clearly not but it's great it's a fun movie about sort of stealing a song and i i think it's it's brave of nick jonas because he is nick jonas even though he has a different character name but like there are scenes where he plays a character that was famous for being in a boy band and who is now struggling to create their own music as an individual and not wanting to just be viewed as the boy band guy and there's scenes of the movie where they're showing like him in the boy band and it's just the other jonas brothers like he's totally leaning into himself and he is a dickhead in this movie which i respect play yourself as a complete
[0:52:40] Andrew: asshole it's a it's a good movie i'd recommend it it's like top 10 i think it's five actually on my list of favorite summer movies but then we go to the furious which is badass that movie kicks ass so good incredible i think this is the one we've all seen outside of nick i think it's the one we've seen the most or the most people have seen this is what i'm trying to
[0:53:04] Unidentified: say
[0:53:04] Gavin: yeah i've seen four of us have seen it yeah it was fun but without being good i think
[0:53:08] Eric: really you don't know it was good it was not good i didn't no i didn't need it to be good i needed it to be a half hour fight with the guy who uh is bald and flops around like a frog man and like does headbutts and it's incredible i'm convinced he based his
[0:53:24] Gavin: entire performance on donkey kong
[0:53:26] Eric: yeah
[0:53:27] Gavin: didn't you tell me that
[0:53:29] Andrew: like as
[0:53:29] Gavin: a
[0:53:29] Andrew: fact oh
[0:53:30] Gavin: is that yeah i think that is a fact i think that's like what he said he was going for
[0:53:34] Eric: dude it
[0:53:35] Andrew: rocks it's that's why you're
[0:53:37] Gavin: convinced because he said it he convinced me himself apparently yeah
[0:53:40] Andrew: i was like if that's an opinion then that's a problem because i told other people that as a fact because you told it to me as a fact so let's hope it's a fact that movie has a fight scene in it that is 2v2v1 and i've never seen that and that is fucking awesome that is
[0:54:01] Eric: such a cool idea so sick it's so cool it is the last half hour of the movie is one fight that just feels like it never ends in like in a way that i could not
[0:54:12] Andrew: get enough of yes it's a movie that i thought was over and i paused and i was like i'm gonna i need to get up i need to do something this is like five minutes left i paused there were 42 minutes left and
[0:54:24] Unidentified: i
[0:54:24] Andrew: was like what the fuck what is gonna happen and then it was just all fighting in like the most badass way great ending yep fun movie but next up is the death of robin hood which jeff you're the only one who saw yeah tell us about mud men
[0:54:38] Geoff: it's long it's gruesome it's a lot of body horror it's about gross dudes rolling around in the mud and killing each other uh in bloody ways you don't like anybody in the film also uh it goes exactly where you think it's gonna go it's there's no surprises to this film you will figure it out in the first 10 minutes and then you'll just slowly watch it happen as people's jaws are ripped off for nine oh god two hours and 10 minutes or whatever
[0:55:10] Andrew: yeah i plan on seeing this but your lack of enthusiasm uh it's like i just it's it's just depressing man it's just
[0:55:18] Geoff: fucking depressing
[0:55:19] Andrew: didn't make a lot of money five million not nearly as successful as the sheep detectives sort of funny that he jackman is in two movies this summer both about the death of the character that they're playing yeah
[0:55:32] Geoff: makes you make it makes robin hood not a good guy which is where you think it's gonna go and then it does yeah
[0:55:38] Andrew: we got jack s5 i
[0:55:42] Eric: didn't even see this
[0:55:43] Andrew: i saw twice so interesting wow i'm so excited to talk about this with you jeff
[0:55:47] Geoff: yeah i made jeff
[0:55:48] Andrew: watch it
[0:55:49] Gavin: again
[0:55:50] Geoff: camp how you may have to make me i was excited to do it can't believe it did as poorly as it did but what do you what do you want to talk about it what you want to say i think it's interesting
[0:56:01] Andrew: because like to me this is by far the weakest of the movies but in a way that like i think is justifiable and understandable and i think it's such an interesting um display of how i think there is a unique disconnect between the people that like the thing the most and the people that make the thing in a way that this movie is really presented as hey get your friends together go see this in a group setting and i imagine that it's fun and for them reflective but as somebody who loves jackass they are just sort of like replaying moments from other movies without a lot of additional context provided to them that are supposed to be like oh man this happened like 20 years ago isn't it crazy like you haven't seen this in a while and it's like no i've watched this about 18 times between when it came out i watched this four months ago i feel like i watched
[0:56:58] Gavin: i watched each movie less than the last so for me i was i actually enjoyed watching so many clips from jackass 3 and jackass forever but yeah i don't think i don't think any of the new stuff was memorable but it was cute it was a cute it was a cute ending yeah
[0:57:13] Geoff: when i went into it what i expected it would be is the jackass guys going hey this this era is over and i think that that's more than anything what that movie signaled and the success of the film i think probably bears truth to it but i think they're saying like we're we're old we're not we can't continue this anymore the people we tried to pass the torch to for whatever reason that didn't catch on uh this is our last opportunity to kind of go out with with uh i don't
[0:57:43] Unidentified: know
[0:57:43] Geoff: a little bit of fanfare and give everybody the opportunity that loved this kind of shtick this dumb thing grab all your friends go to the movies one last time let's all sit at the movie theater and eat some popcorn and relive our favorite moments from jackass and we'll see some new ones that are fun right like nothing was amazing there weren't nobody got you know there wasn't anything that's gonna blow you away in the new one at all and there were some that were just weird there was this marionette thing that just i feel like it must have been edited poorly because it made no fucking sense at any point any of it although throwing a pineapple at somebody suspended in the air in itself is very funny uh there was just no connective tissue to it but the proctologist joke a bit was funny uh i thought them taking the the uh stuff that makes you poop for to clean you out for a colonoscopy was funny like there were definitely funny moments but to me it was more just like a get together with your friends and say goodbye to a time and an era and that's what i expected from it and i thought it was really sweet i do wish there were some more heartfelt
[0:58:48] Geoff: interviews that tied things together i think gavin kind of alluded to that as well uh and i think the reality there is probably that those dudes aren't as close as you would want them to be after 30 years of working together and it's probably hard to with it to muster up some of that sentimentality outside of johnny knoxville who cries every time you put a camera on him at this point in his life which i get totally
[0:59:10] Gavin: i i got the impression that there was a bunch of segments that had to be salvaged through like kind of strange editing and a ton of stuff that just didn't work at all and you just see like little glimpses of and i i also got the impression that the old cast don't particularly like any of the new cast yeah i thought it was like
[0:59:27] Geoff: i thought it was like a love letter to that period of time where something like that could succeed jackass doesn't exist in 2026 and it won't like it's it's lost to that era and i i thought it was great for what it was and i didn't expect anything more from it than that i don't want to see any of these dudes get seriously hurt they're already dealing with enough going that is enough damage going forward into the
[0:59:49] Andrew: rest
[0:59:53] Unidentified: of
[0:59:53] Andrew: on like the reflective side i was really surprised that they didn't spend more time discussing or like highlighting ryan dunn in any way that was like he was yeah they did like they they showed stuff with him but it really felt like if you're going to really be reflective on like the overall arc of it they kind of brush past that aspect of it which was surprising to me and also just like i completely agree i expected there to be more conversation and like reflection in the playing of these old bits and it was a lot of like oh yeah we did this and then they played the bit um and also because of their age i really like a lot of the stunt work more than like the body like gross out stuff in jackass and it is like because of their age they lean so heavily into the gross out stuff yeah or what all of the new bits are
[1:00:42] Geoff: it's what they have left that they can accomplish right yes yeah uh i will say the ending i thought it was a clip i had never seen before it's the very last moment of jackass in the film it ends with uh jeff tremaine and johnny knoxville sitting on beds in a hotel room and somebody is interviewing them about how the day went and i don't even know what shoot they're talking about but it's the last word spoken and jeff tremaine says something to the effect of uh it didn't go exactly how i wanted to but it was all right and johnny knoxville looked at him and said it went exactly how i wanted it to and you just feel the weight of the way he the truth and the way he says it in that moment and you just realize that all of that was just it was all i mean there's a lot of people involved in it but it was all his thing you know and you can feel it in that moment and that like he it went exactly the way he you feel that it went the way he wanted it to and probably nobody else i feel like everything
[1:01:37] Gavin: everything involving the uh the knoxville bull hit from the the other movie is such a interesting glimpse into the way their minds work and just the trade-off of like i'm literally going to trade some of my health for a piece of content and just like weighing it up like they got the first hit wasn't great it was it was a it would be amazing for anyone on earth but it wasn't great for knoxville he has to do it again it's frailed
[1:02:07] Geoff: jackass is two moments to me it's that moment when he and uh when tremaine's talking to him right there in the ring and he's like it was it was good it wasn't great and knoxville's like and then and then when they see the when they see the claymore go off and bam margaris starts crying and he's like i'm fucking no and and knoxville's like hey it's footage it's footage we used to say that to each other to hype each other up all the time in achievement hunter when we were scared to do something gavin and
[1:02:37] Unidentified: i
[1:02:37] Geoff: would say it's footage to each other and that's how we yeah that's how we'd get there
[1:02:42] Andrew: yeah it's it's a good movie like it's just like it's
[1:02:47] Geoff: a it's a solid c plus but that's all i want that's all i expected out of it that's all i wanted and i i'm amazed people thought it was going to be something different the
[1:02:56] Andrew: power of that c plus is i think in the environment in which you see it in i watched it by myself at home and so like it really didn't hit for me in any way but i i completely respect and understand why it is the way it is
[1:03:08] Geoff: i'm also the exact same age as those dudes they got like three years on me so maybe i'm i don't i feel it differently because i'm also you know at the nadir of this thing as well i don't
[1:03:21] Unidentified: know
[1:03:21] Andrew: well that's jackass five a movie spiritually connected to it same film some might say the odyssey i think you're the only one who saw this eric and you really liked it i believe uh
[1:03:34] Eric: yeah i didn't think i was going to like it at all i thought it was going to be christopher nolan painting with like a big big wide brush where like all the details are kind of like fuzzy or whatever because of his big his like big stroke sort of painting and the way he tells a story it was paced so well and it just like it flew by i had the worst time going to see it at an alamo draft house but i really liked the movie uh a lot way way way way way way way more than i thought i was going to and i i uh i recommend it i think it's a i think it's a really it's like a really well-made movie that's really it pays off in like a lot of different ways uh it's very good i
[1:04:18] Gavin: liked it a lot so you're not too fussed about the the technical aspect like the imax of it i
[1:04:23] Eric: saw it in 70 mil and uh which was a great issue that that caused uh when the sound got fucked up and they couldn't rewind it so i just missed the first five minutes of the movie pretty
[1:04:34] Unidentified: cool
[1:04:34] Eric: uh so it's cool that they shot it on it on imax or whatever i'm not a spectacle guy in that way uh i'm looking for a competently made movie that is giving me these setups and payoffs with story with characters that are like doing their job throughout so the grandiose sort of nature of something like this isn't necessarily appealing to me but i understand why it is appealing to most um there's a there's a really big movie here and there are times where i'm watching it going shit this is like the scope of what i'm looking at is like staggering but when it brings you back into like the smaller moments it continues to be a very well-made movie and uh i was i was really impressed after like after like tenet and like dark knight rises and that kind of stuff and just a lot of christopher nolan i like but then there are big swings where i go like oh you're
[1:05:40] Eric: like really broad stroke in this bud and uh that's what i thought the odyssey was going to be and it wasn't it was very very good
[1:05:45] Gavin: oh excellent i
[1:05:47] Eric: think gavin i think you'd really like it i think that i think there's a lot to really like in the movie and then i think you'll be really impressed with like the technical like grandeur of it all
[1:05:55] Gavin: yeah i really want to see it
[1:05:57] Andrew: next on the list is the rivals of amziah king i didn't see it i don't think anyone saw it i really want to see it it's like a honey movie it's a movie about stealing honey with matthew mcconaughey and kurt russell i'm into it i think it's like four point empires and crazy i'm excited to see it but didn't see it insidious the bleeding world i've never seen any of the insidious movies people like them either uh i think i've seen
[1:06:23] Eric: most of the insidious movies by accident really on a plane yeah it's just a thing that like it was like oh here's this and it just sort of like is on when you're like with a group of people and you're watching it going what is happening here and uh i think it's so weird that these horror movies i hate it i hate that horror movies are coming out in april and august keep it keep it around september october what are we doing here like please please please please please put it around fucking halloween time and those are my movies and
[1:06:56] Andrew: now shall we move to gavin's 21 first place
[1:07:00] Geoff: list okay
[1:07:02] Andrew: well we have to start with horizon and american saga chapter two big big question mark any minute now one day any minute that movie has multiple lawsuits at this point and i don't think we'll ever be released does
[1:07:15] Gavin: that movie did that movie help me win the bonus star
[1:07:20] Andrew: no was not factored in because it didn't even it doesn't even really exist it wasn't slated like it's just we carry over every year your first real movie is billy eilish hit me hard and soft the tour directed by james cameron two two pretty big names that made 10 million uh it is i watched it it is a concert movie it's what it is but it did make me think about is this the highest percentage of people wearing bandanas and crying in a singular place that has ever occurred in history and i think it may a lot of people wearing bandanas and crying in the crowd wow probably the fun fact of the thing but next up is stop that train movie i didn't see because it had a lot of ai usage i don't really know anything about it has three exclamation marks though it does the rupaul movie i think so i think it's a drag queen movie and then next on the list is a movie
[1:08:21] Andrew: that didn't even it is not a movie it's an event that didn't end up making it to movie theaters but i guess it's going to at one point ufc freedom 250 gavin loves freedom he loves the ufc made zero dollars but it did happen that was an event that occurred yep fights were had what a time what a time i forgot how much i spent on
[1:08:44] Gavin: toy story
[1:08:44] Andrew: damn and then you went all in on toy story which uh at the time we didn't know there'd be a taylor swift song in front of it which i feel like boosts this up at least like 50 million get a 50 million from taylor swift oh wow love it i said toy story 5 i thought it was better than toy story 4 um nick what did what did you think of toy story 5 i
[1:09:06] Nick: liked it it was way better than 4 um obviously anything after 3 seems kind of pointless but i thought it was poignant about you know kids relying on tablets and friendships and things like that and also made me feel another movie that made me feel and i was like this is a cartoon how dare you are these like andy's
[1:09:24] Geoff: kids at this point no it's like um related
[1:09:27] Nick: yeah so at the end of 3 he gave the toys to this girl named bonnie and she's like
[1:09:32] Geoff: remember that yeah
[1:09:32] Nick: so she's the main character and is still young uh but she's going into like a certain grade and all the kids are like into tablets and are like in friend groups on their tablets and so the movie is really about well are they real friends are they artificial friendships created through online you know it was a really very poignant
[1:09:51] Eric: boomer take yes smart very very
[1:09:54] Nick: smart um
[1:09:55] Eric: can i ask do the toys make friends with the tablet eventually yes pathetic that's fucking guys guys you're being oppressed yes but if we befriend our oppressor then who is truly on top what the fuck are you talking about the oppressor realizes they were wrong yeah they realize
[1:10:13] Nick: they were wrong
[1:10:14] Eric: and they come around ridiculous hang them like mussolini
[1:10:18] Nick: man it's a tablet you can't
[1:10:20] Eric: yeah and hang it hang it no more batteries yeah that's what i'm saying get rid of it it's interesting like i'm the perfect bring back slinky dog do not do not soften against these oppressors this is not the way this is in it um good slinky dog can we can use slinky dog to hang the tablet it's
[1:10:41] Andrew: interesting because i was the perfect age for these movies and like uh the timing of the third one and how much it hits of it's time for andy to give the toys away and like the the kind of emotional connection of that moment felt perfect and like it they spent enough time between movies that like i aged at kind of the same time that andy did as a character uh and now we're in this sort of interesting era of toy story 5 where it feels like they've closed that loop of kids and are now starting a new loop for new kids uh i can't think of many franchises that have done that rotation star wars like oh i guess yeah sure i haven't seen a lot of those i don't know how comparable it is but like the concept of all the characters are the jar
[1:11:22] Geoff: jar binks was for a different generation oh
[1:11:25] Andrew: absolutely but this is like i think i think is interesting where it's all of the same characters that i can associate with but i guess they did that with the modern franchise so they just befriend
[1:11:35] Eric: palpatine uh star war everyone just befriend palpatine your oppressor yes absolutely yes oh he learned the error of his ways yes perfect
[1:11:43] Andrew: vader did at the end palpatine's middle name is lily pad and we all just need to come to terms with that and become friends with them if you
[1:11:51] Gavin: put if you put dog ends on a slinky doesn't it take away all the fun of putting a slinky down yes
[1:11:56] Nick: it's worthless yeah
[1:11:58] Gavin: i
[1:11:58] Eric: mean
[1:11:58] Gavin: you
[1:11:58] Eric: can just push them down i think it's more about pulling them around by the string so it's like a fun like dachshund now everybody's pushed dogs down the stairs i'm pulling dogs down the stairs you fool oh yeah that's better
[1:12:08] Andrew: dogs in the stairs like girls like girls lesbians what else i didn't see is young washington hunter
[1:12:18] Eric: coming out there
[1:12:20] Andrew: did well though huh 47 million dollars worth of people want to see young washington i could not believe it i think this is like a weird ai that's some good value yeah you got incredible value on young washington
[1:12:33] Geoff: that's why you got first place right there
[1:12:35] Gavin: it's like a bonus star the young washington star
[1:12:37] Andrew: yeah the young washington star and then we get a spider-man brand new day which is the biggest movie that's ever movied in a way that i can't comprehend it's it's incomprehensible
[1:12:48] Gavin: although looking at the i'm looking at the list of the top 10 grosser movies spider-man no way home the one from 2021 is number three now number four dethroned by spider-man that's insane
[1:12:58] Andrew: yeah i just i think it's so crazy that like it's making more than the marvel movies that they spent like 17 movies building towards that i know like you could do 17 movies leading to one moment or just a spider-man and to have the same amount of financial impact is just
[1:13:15] Gavin: some spider i've also noticed that the top 10 contains six movies with colons in the title spider-man brand new day star wars the force awakens avenger endgame spider-man no way home top gun maverick avatar the way of water and avengers infinity war or coland so
[1:13:36] Andrew: colon means money is what you're
[1:13:38] Gavin: saying colons are money i need
[1:13:40] Andrew: to sell my colon that's what you're telling me
[1:13:42] Gavin: and i think i'll buy it i'll buy it the the ever spiraling value of the dollar and inflation are doing a lot of the heavy lifting on my picks this year
[1:13:51] Eric: oh yeah for sure
[1:13:52] Gavin: 936 million but
[1:13:55] Eric: don't worry because there's spider-man brand new day followed by ice cream man way to go dude we're really want to punch there
[1:14:01] Andrew: just like that i didn't see it it's apparently terrible there's uh once again an ai movie eli roth kind of sucks no not eli can you believe it eli roth is it a horror film a shocker movie that is like look at how gory it is and nothing else provided to it yep um and we have super troopers 3 which i when i was looking at the list last night was like oh yeah that was a thing that existed and happened that's crazy i wonder if we're
[1:14:32] Geoff: done no i don't think i
[1:14:34] Andrew: don't think so
[1:14:34] Geoff: i'm sure i'm sure it's done did it make more than two i wonder i
[1:14:40] Andrew: don't know i can look that up really quickly you're doing everything
[1:14:43] Geoff: uh
[1:14:44] Andrew: i never liked super troopers as much as i wanted to like people love that movie it's fine oh
[1:14:51] Geoff: never mind who did 32 million oh 13 million no
[1:14:55] Andrew: fifth
[1:14:55] Geoff: you're right man it did numbers stroke 32 okay
[1:15:02] Andrew: 32 million a little short of that but uh yeah i think they're done i would assume yeah i would imagine so then we have teenage sex and death at camp miasma i haven't seen it would like to see it i hear it's good
[1:15:15] Eric: i want to see that too i heard pretty good things i heard it's uh it's like a fun amount of camp with a uh in a camp setting so that's i didn't even think that's fun perfect uh then we have paw patrol the dino movie holy
[1:15:29] Andrew: shit 51 million did
[1:15:30] Geoff: as well as supergirl wow wow
[1:15:33] Andrew: you didn't see paw patrol is your kid a paw patrol kid nick
[1:15:38] Nick: i didn't see it but he did he ended up seeing it with my wife one day uh he is not a paw patrol kid i keep that show actively out of the house i see oh just like just like
[1:15:50] Eric: the whole like and like the whole like defund the police thing for you oh
[1:15:53] Nick: yeah
[1:15:54] Eric: obviously
[1:15:55] Geoff: i'm with you archie's bill name is a cab so no
[1:16:00] Nick: i just uh the song sucks the show sucks
[1:16:02] Eric: you're
[1:16:05] Nick: more of a bluey household the impressive ideology sucks i love bluey he does not care for bluey it's too fast it's too fast too fast it's like a nine minute episode
[1:16:14] Geoff: oh the paws got it the dog's got his paw on my neck
[1:16:20] Gavin: that's like 90 minutes isn't it
[1:16:22] Andrew: wait what that's true it's a good point next movie is the magic far away tree i don't know how's that it's an andrew garfield kids movie is he spider-man again he's spider-man again and he's got a faraway magical tree um wow too
[1:16:39] Geoff: far for the audience to get to apparently
[1:16:40] Andrew: yeah too magical couldn't see it next we have thread in insidious tale movie that got pushed uh bloody wasted
[1:16:48] Gavin: three i wasted seven points here yeah
[1:16:51] Andrew: sorry man you sure did that's
[1:16:52] Gavin: rough
[1:16:53] Andrew: cliffhanger is a hilarious one that got pushed where they announced the release date without securing like the rights to be able to do it like they were still negotiating i think to be able to like distribute the movie uh that just got finalized though so that movie will come out but it did not make it within the timeline and then the all-time shelved movie to only come back and make some money is coyote verse acme which i did not see but everybody i know who saw it loves yeah i
[1:17:24] Nick: heard it was
[1:17:24] Andrew: great yeah yeah yeah that's that i'm excited to see it eventually but what i am not going to see is finding emily because i don't know anything about it do you remember gavin bought it was rude that gavin bought it over jeff
[1:17:38] Geoff: yeah that's right i know where she is i don't need to find her not too many people found her lost i was
[1:17:43] Gavin: just backing up at this point wasn't i was just going yeah you were yeah
[1:17:46] Andrew: you just had the points no one else had money and the last movie on the list is idiots which i think is a o'shea
[1:17:56] Eric: jackson jr movie it is o'shea jackson and uh is it dave franco that sounds i think
[1:18:02] Geoff: you're right i think it is dave franco yeah yeah nobody saw it and that was a heavy
[1:18:06] Andrew: hitters the summary movie like congratulations gavin way to go gavin back to back years hell yeah congratulations man
[1:18:14] Gavin: put that crown on buddy is there a way to sort the entire list by most valuable point or is that it still have to be done per person i
[1:18:22] Andrew: think it'll be maybe if you go all drafted movies i mean i think it's got to be spider
[1:18:27] Eric: -man doesn't it
[1:18:28] Gavin: yeah
[1:18:29] Andrew: it
[1:18:29] Eric: has to be here we go spider-man yes 78 young washington that's crazy at the young washington number two that's
[1:18:38] Andrew: wild the one point wild that is crazy i guess before we wrap this can i just go through my list of movies least like worst to best just in order really quickly hit us 27 uh movies uh 27 the breadwinner 26 scary movie 25 deep water 24 billy eilish movie 23 mortal combat 2 22 the mandalorian and grogu 21 in the grade uh 20 i want your sex 19 disclosure day 18 supergirl 17 jackass best and last 16 obsession 15 devil wars product 2 14 toy story 5 13 the end of oak street 11 back rooms uh 10 masters of the universe 9 i love boosters 8 the sheep detectives 7 pressure 6 minions and monsters 5 power ballad for the furious 3 the invite 2 is god is one hokum what was 12 nice
[1:19:32] Eric: what
[1:19:33] Geoff: was 12 the end of oak street what was 13 two story 5
[1:19:38] Gavin: okay
[1:19:39] Geoff: does that help
[1:19:40] Andrew: yeah
[1:19:41] Unidentified: thank you great
[1:19:42] Gavin: would anyone have been in a different position if worldwide was taken into account
[1:19:46] Andrew: oh for sure yeah this would be dramatically different i assume worldwide totals yeah i'd be on top no eric would be on top that mutiny money was all overseas they love jason statham
[1:19:57] Eric: we were waiting for that was my big play at the end that's why i took mutiny at the end because i was like a bang jump in the first place and then all of a sudden and then also animal farm big in china uh guys that is the summer movie league gavin wins so i think that means gavin has to make it he gets to pick a movie that we watch sure yeah and i get and i
